Electric Gate Safety Issues
#1
Question
Recently there have been a few tradgic deaths involving electric gate systems - Please use this forum for electric gate safety issues.

We have a free guide which we can email or post to you - Contact us via this form. Its a shame that these tradgic incidents could have been avoided if safety edges were installed on these systems.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us or post on this forum.

Please see here for Sliding Gate Safety Edges.

As an electric gate installer and AESIF member, the recent tragic incidents involving sliding gates must now highlight the need for an independent qualification and / or regulating body in line with other trades.
As mentioned in another post ‘anybody can install an electric gate’ & with reference to BS-EN13241-1 ‘also be aware that many gate installers have never heard of these regulations’. This sadly is the case and should be one of the main focuses of the Health & Safety Executives report, when investigating these tragic incidents. It’s estimated that only 50% of electric gate installers comply with current regulations. So using this statistic you could assume that client only has a 50% chance of a compliant installation.
If half the industry don’t know about the regulations how can we expect the general public, it needs reputable manufactures, suppliers and installers to push for these changes within the electric gate industry.

With regards to HAM Automations post, we find, as a supplier of gate automation and gate safety equipment, knowledge is key when installing this kind of technology. Within the past month, over 1000 copies of our 'Gate Legislation Guide' and 'Safety Edge Guide' have gone out to various installers and manufacturers throughout the UK. This, we hope, will assist in raising awareness of how compliant installations should be commissioned.

Please see links below for our 'Gate Legislation Guide' and 'Safety Edge Guide'
