Proteco controller & ACT5e keypad - keeps tripping
#1
Hi
  • Proteco controller
  • ACT5e keypad

Had system in for 10 years but on two occasions (one a number of years ago and one now) the key pad (ACT5e) is tripping the resettable fuse on the board

All worked fine until earlier this week - now on connecting the keypad to the board the board trips and has to be reset (powered off and on again)

no shorts detected
no obvious cable degradation etc

key pad works ok when powered up on its own from a separate supply (but I've not measured current draw etc )

Thoughts
is the resettable fuse a bit sensitive - do they degrade over the years ?

All ideas welcome

Hi,

Thanks for the message,

it is possible that this may need replacing however it is extremely unlikely, i would probably assume the issue lies with the cabling to the keypad itself shorting causing a low resistance which subsequently will cause the current to rise, do the gates still operate via fobs without issues?

Thanks for this

The system works perfectly without the keypad connected.

I have connected the keypad to an old physics lab power supply where I can read off the current draw - it seems in order at around 50 to 80ma.

I am going to circumvent the installed cable and run a quick test cable keypad directly to the box to see if as you suggest, there is some issue in the installed cable. I've always had a suspicion this cable was compromised on installation but its failure is intermittent (perhaps weather or moisture dependant etc)
