Gate Controls/Indicators 200m from Gates
#1
I'm trying to place an additional set of gate controls in my house for existing gates which are roughly 200m away. My gate controller is a CTR32. The manual is here:
https://www.knowledgebase.egates.co.uk/f...p?id=10686

All the features I want to install seem to be available on the controller I have.
1) An open/start button (normally open)
2) Gate open light (240v)
3) Blinker light to indicate opening/closing sequence (240v)

If the controls were being installed 5m from the gate I would be happy getting on with it as I'm competent enough to do the wiring.
What I'm not sure about is running cables 200m. I already have ducting all the way from the gates to the house, so the route is not a problem, however I'm unsure as to whether I need to make any special allowances for the length of cable run. I only want a very low-current light for the gate open and blinker indicators, so what sort of cable should I use for those and the open switch itself?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Morning!

For any gate open switch over this distance, i would recommend a GSM controller. This would wire into the normally open switch of the gate control board and accept a call from a telephone number which will then open the gates. The gate control board will then send voltage to the gate open light/flashing light. You can find GSM controllers in the link below.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Ryan.

We do already have a GSM unit on the gate, but due to the very poor signal in this area, it is unreliable.

The other problem we have is that the gate is out of sight from the house. Although it's only 200m in a straight line, it is roughly a 500m walk to get from the house to a point where you can see whether the gate is open or not. Therefore we need to have some indicator in the house of the gate's open/closed status as well as the ability to open or close it, otherwise we've no idea whether we are opening a closed gate, or closing an open one!

hi
all you need is professional radio-receiver with lcd - screen to control relay status . that have to be superheterodyna receiver module , range 200-1000 m

That is quite a distance.

With this much distance, it's really difficult to get good signal strength.

I agree with you mate, it will be difficult to get a strong signal with that distance

Hi, have you possibly tried using a designated Ariel to boost signal strength.

There is an indicator placed directly below the inspection door on the front of the Kleener.

With GSM systems it is unfortunately hit and miss you could possibly try a different network we find Vodafone usually being the best network.
