BFT SUB Motor test.
#1
I installed my RIGEL 4 and SUB R kit 14 years ago and this morning I found both gates closed and the RIGEL 4 controller with two burnt out relay. The first two from the left just above the motor connector plug JP6.

I opened the gates by by releasing the manual release valve.

I would now like to test the motors before connecting a replacement control board. Probably now a RIGEL 5.

I cannot find anywhere a winding schematic for the SUB motors. The three wires coming out of the motor are Blue Black and Brown and a 600mF capacitor goes across blck to brown.

I would have guessed that 230v goes across blue (neutral) and brown live. But what voltage goes across the black wire. A schematic of the windings would have given me the answer and the capacitor is probably for starting or reversing?

Any help appreciated as I want to make sure the motors are ok.

First connect the motor wires to a terminal block in this way
1st position: Blue wire
2nd position: Brown wire and one of the two wires of the capacitor
3d position: Black wire and the other wire of the capacitor

Use the other side of the terminal block to connect power as follows. Be prepared to immediately disconnect power if needed.

1) To test movement to one direction (may be opening or closing):
- Neutral goes to the Blue wire
- Phase goes to the Brown wire plus capacitor
Nothing is connected to the Black wire (but don't touch it or allow it to make contact with anything)

2) To test movement to the other direction (the opposite of the one above):
- Neutral goes to the Blue wire
- Phase goes to the Black wire plus capacitor
Nothing is connected to the Brown wire (but don't touch it or allow it to make contact with anything)

PS: In case the motor does not move but a low buzzing sound is audible, it is possible that the capacitor is damaged.
