Parallel (or not) gate motors

My inexperienced gate electrics fitter has got my gates working but has a problem getting them to close in a straight alignment.

The motors were installed in the ground by the gates manufacturer, not the gate electrics fitter. As shown in the attached photo the gate motors are, for cosmetic reasons, slightly splayed in the ground so not parallel with each other.

My fitter has read that, for the gates to open/close correctly, the gate motors have to be set in the ground parallel with each other.

Of course I would prefer the gates to function perfectly without having to resite the gate motors. Do the gate motors have to be parallel?

Hi, for the gates to work optimally it would definitely be recommended that they are parallel with one another, if not it can cause extra strain on the motors, causing decreased longevity.
