Hi,
Could well be a problem with the control board. Especially if it is 10 years old and hasnt been regulary serviced. What is the make and model of the gate openers? Try opening the control board and checking for signs of water, also clean out any spider webs and dirt and make sure there are no slugs on the board. If the gate is opening on its own then there must be something triggering the start circuit on the board, so you could well have a damaged board due to water or spiders, slugs, etc. You should think about getting the gates serviced as they should have a service every year, if you are in our area (midlands) we can do this for you.
Thanks
