Photocell configuration for CB11
#1
Hi, I have installed a swing gate system with Internal and external photocells plus a free exit loop. From what I can see the external photocells should be connected to be active on close and the internal active on open. Since I have not installed a shadow loop, would it not be better to connect the internal photocells to the Open/Close terminals 23 & 24. This pair of terminals appears to be only for an optional 3rd set but I would like to be sure the gates do not close if a car is within the swing area of the gates.

Hi, Malcom. The internal photocells should be wired into the open/close photocell circuit, this will prevent the gates from closing on your car aswell as opening on it.

Thanks for your reply. I thought this would make more sense but the Liftmaster instructions stated:
"EN12453 specifies that a pair of photocells must be installed at a height of 200 mm and activated to “Close”; a second pair must be installed at a height of 200 mm and activated to “Open”. A third pair of photocells can be optionally installed and activated to “Close” and “Open”."

The EN Regulations cover the whole installation it is down to the installer to install the photocells in the circuit to achive the safest setup for each indevidual install. The Liftmaster instructions are an example of the setup as each installation is different you need to decide which circuits are best to use.

Hi, if you are talking about overall height, i would not like to fit a pair of photocells at 200mm, at this height they would certainly be to low and the infra red would travel underneath most cars underside. We tend to fit photocells at a minimum of 500mm from the ground.

We also wire the exit loop into safety aswell, in series with the internal photocells.

Yes, Thanks Carl, I must admit I ignored this part of the instruction and fitted mine at about 500mm. It’s good to hear that I’m not alone in this assumption. I guess common sense should always take precedence over regulations!Wink
