Fine during day, but detecting obstruction rest of time!
#1
Hi,

My front gates are opened using a WS200S as described here:
https://www.easygates.co.uk/mhouse-ws200...opener.asp

It was already installed when I bought this house last year, and I guess it may be around 10 years old (or less if the model hasn't existed that long Smile).

In recent weeks it has started to malfunction, by refusing to close, or starting to close and then opening again repeatedly. The position of the gates isn't consistent when this happens, the only pattern seems to be that at some point in the morning after daylight it becomes ok again and then works perfectly all day, until evening time approx 19:30 or by 20:00 it is definitely completely mad again.

The main lamp blinks twice, pauses, then blinks twice again, which according to a manual I have found online, means that it thinks there is an obstruction.

I am wondering if it could be temperature related, although I am struggling to see where/why or what I could do about it. I also wonder if this means faulty wiring somewhere, but then why does it work fine in the day? Or is just that these things lose their digital minds with age and relentless sun?
The house is in the south of France, near Marseille, it doesn't rain much (but when it does it can be heavy), daily temps now go from a low of maybe 17 to a high of maybe 28.

I have taken off the photocell units and cleaned them (just by cloth wiping, they don't seem dirty anyway) and put them back, with no improvement. When I test them, their LED shows correct functioning (ie not triggering for no reason, and not triggering when the control unit reports an obstruction).

I asked a local guy who installs professional motorised gates, and he said I could try replacing the photocells, then the control card in the device, but by then I might as well buy a replacement unit. My fear though is that I buy a unit (costing ~£350 or so), spend some hour or few installing it, and then discover the problem is still there because maybe it is faulty wiring? He also said he had never seen anything like it.

I'm hoping that somebody reading this will know what has happened, or can otherwise share some advice, because this gate is really very annoying now!

Many thanks in advance for any replies or help!  Smile

hi
mhouse is low budget home automation you cant expect too much from it .
obstruction - release lock and try manually open/close gate , if there is any resistance try sort this out

check the gate hinges and the handles of the actuator

Thanks for the reply Tom!
I'll check the handles and the hinges ASAP!

Any ideas why it would be ok during the day and on;y start to go wrong late afternoon?

For the handles of the actuator, what am I looking for? Impediments to movement like tight/rusted arms, things like that?

Maybe I am better off buying a replacement, maybe a more expensive unit? Do you recommend any please?

I can only open one side by hand, because the plastic screw part on the other side snapped (it had been left open to the sun) so I can't decouple the motor from the gate.
BUt the one side seems smooth.

How do I invite gate specialist? To this thread you mean? Is there a way to get their attention then? Sorry if it's obvious or easy, my only excuse is that I'm new to this forum Smile

Yeah but that part is just for unlocking that part of the gate from the motor. It's not causing the gate to think it is obstructed - I snapped it when trying to diagnose the problem Smile
Also I already had a local gate specialist look at this, he said he didn't know what was causing the problem and he's never seen it before.

Maybe I'll buy the same system again and replace all the parts.

Then if it still happens, smash it all to pieces with a large hammer and put a manual gate there...
