Came ZA4 control panel - Pat - 31-03-2025

Hi guys I have a problem with my gates, it started out as an intermitent problem but my gates are now permenently open. The red light on the panel is on does this indicate a photocell problem and the psensors detect an obstacle? Cheers in advance.

Hi Pat, the first thing to try is to touch a link wire on the terminal block marked 2 and C1, if the gates start to close, or the led goes out then the issue is with the photo cells cicuit If you don't hear the relay clicking on the receiver side of the photo cells then check the other side which is the transmitter, if they are Dir 10,s or 20,s, they have a 350ma fuse which tends to blow with power surges. If the fuse is OK and the receiver is still not clicking, check that 24vac is getting to 10 and 11 or 10 and 2 on the receiver, if the voltage is there and the receiver is not clicking, replace the photo cells. One thing to check is the control panel, slugs are our nemesis, the Za4 is an old board, if the panel is not sealed enough then it is a warm haven for creatures to come and short connections and pop stuff.

Hi Pat,

Thank you for your message.

I would firstly start by linking out safety inputs on the control board, if the gates are able to open but not able to close then this is usually down to a safety fault.
Please bridge across the following terminals:
1-2
2-C1

Another theory is it could be a access control device relay contacts that have shorted together by a cable short fault, whatever is wired into terminals 2 and 3, take them out and try the gates after trying the above.

Many thanksĀ

Ben
