Door with no springs - Guest - 27-04-2011 Hi, We've got a Liftmaster 800A garage door opener which works on a double garage sectional door. At the moment one of the two extension springs on the garage door is broken so the door won't open easily because of the asymmetric pull from the remaining spring and a spring replacement is proving hard to find. I was therefore wondering whether I could disconnect the other good spring and just rely on the garage door opener to open and shut the door, while we sort out replacement springs. The door weighs about 70kg RE: Door with no springs - Mark - 09-05-2011 The Springs on the door are an integral part of the design and need to be there to aid with the lifting of the door. Without the springs the door itself would probably be too heavy for any garage automation kit so you must replace the spring before using the motor to avoid causing damage to the automation kit |
